It is a weapon commonly used in ancient East Asia, including the Korean Peninsula. Hwandudaedo refers to the head of the handle used at the time. It is the name given to ‘all’ single-edged swords with ring-shaped decorations. In Korean history, it appeared around the 1st century BC. It has been in use for a long time, having occupied the position of a major archipelago since about the 3rd century AD. Hwandudaedo is a term created by Japanese archaeologists. It means a large sword with a ring-shaped decoration at the end of the hilt. In pure Korean, it is also called ‘big hilt knife’, ‘gori knife’, or ‘gori hilt knife’. However, these are not words originally used in Korea. This is a translation of Hwandu Daedo. It is usually called Hwandudaedo.
